1. The ZOMBIES will be back!
The Neighbourhood Dance Works presents the 9th annual Zombie Gram Fundraiser this Halloween. The Zombie dancers will return in Georgestown, Thursday, October 31st, at 6:00pm, at the corner of Hayward Avenue and Maxse Street with new choreography and new music. Same great dancing zombies.

We will be passing a hat for donations for this fundraiser. If you can volunteer with this event, please contact us at ( .

2. Dealing with Drywall and Plaster
Workshop hosted by St. John’s Tool Library, Tuesday, October 22nd, at 6:30-8:30pm.

3. Make Your Home Energy Efficient
Workshop hosted by St. John’s Tool Library, Wednesday, October 23rd, at 6:30-7:45pm. Energy experts Kaitie Collins and Chris House from takeCHARGE, Newfoundland Power teach how you can make your home more energy efficient.

4. Pumpkin Walk (Bannerman Park)
November 1st, at 6:00pm, bring your carved pumpkin to Bannerman Park and help us to light up The Loop with a huge Jack O’Lantern display. A light source will be provided for pumpkins and costumes are encouraged. Pumpkins will be collected and composted. Hot chocolate provided (bring own reusuable mug). Inclement weather date: November 2.

5. Pink Tie Gala
Pink Tie Gala Fundraiser for the PerSIStence Theatre Company, CLB Armoury, Friday, November 1st, 6:30-10:30pm. Enjoy a four-course meals cooked by outstanding female chefs and paired with Bonardo wines. Entertainment by Shirley Neville and Julia Halfyard, and Halifax poet laureate El Jones. PerSIStence Theatre’s soldout performances of the “Haunting of Margaret Duley,” Newfoundland’s pioneering novelist and resident of Georgestown, recently closed at the LSPU Hall. Put on your fancy duds, whatever they may be and support future feminist theatre productions! Tickets $200. Details (

6. Tea and Scrabble for a Good Cause
Saturday, November 2nd, 2:00-4:30pm, you can help grandmothers in Africa raise their grandchildren orphaned by AIDS. The Tea and Scrabble fundraiser, organized by the Terra Nova Grandmothers and Grandothers, is a time to play scrabble, drink tea, eat delicious treats, and win prizes. Come as a team or find a partner there. Bring a board and a 4th edition dictionary; a few will be available.
Proceeds will be donated to the Stephen Lewis Foundation’s Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign. Overflow parking available at the Basilica.

c. St. John’s Baby Clothes Library. A new library is set to open in St. John’s later this fall for sharing baby clothes, from size preemie to 2T. Clothes will be able to be picked up and dropped off at the St. John’s Tool Library during its hours of operation.

b. The Georgestown Bakery, 60 Hayward Ave, 753-8099. Open from Tuesday until Friday, from 7:00 until 5:30pm, and on Saturday from 7:00 until 3:00. Bagels, baguettes, breads of many varieties as well as sweets!
