1. Heritage Grants Available.

The Heritage Financial Incentives Programme aims to conserve heritage resources by assisting property owners to maintain buildings and homes located in the City’s Heritage Areas or properties designated as Heritage Buildings. Since 2016 when the incentive program began, over $86,000 in grant funding has been awarded to 34 successful applicants.

Two types of grants are available:
i. Heritage Maintenance Grant up to 25% of material and labour costs to a maximum of $1,000 for maintenance and repair to façade elements bordering a public street.
ii. Heritage Conservation Grant up to 25% of material and labour costs to a maximum of $5,000 for the preservation, restoration and/or replacement of façade elements bordering a public street.

Further details, conditions and application forms are available online. Applications are accepted until Wednesday, May 1st at 4:00 p.m.

a. The Georgestown Café and Bookshelf are open 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. from Monday to Saturday, and from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. 73 Hayward Avenue, 709-579-7134.

b. The Georgestown Bakery, 60 Hayward Avenue, is open from Tuesday until Friday, from 7:00 until 5:30 p.m., and on Saturday from 7:00 until 3:00. Bagels, baguettes, breads of many varieties as well as sweets! 753-8099.

i. New hours. Beginning on March 4th, the cafe will open Tuesday to Saturday, from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Closed on Sunday.

8. ​The Loop at Bannerman Park.
Daily hours 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., except during ice resurfacing (no skating): Monday to Thursday: 8:00-10:00 a.m. and 2:30-3:15 p.m.; Friday to Sunday: 8:00-10:00 a.m.; 1:15-2:00 p.m. and 4:00-4:45 p.m.

Call The Loop line at 733-LOOP (5667) to check if it’s open. The Loop line is updated during closures resulting from poor ice conditions.

All visitors must follow the rules and regulations posted around The Loop, and on the City website, so all skaters have fun while remaining safe during the season ahead.
