This presentation was part of the the City of St. John’s Get into it! program, encouraging residents to enjoy St. John’s many neighbourhood parks. The City of St. John’s invites you to take a selfie in the park and share it with them using #CSJParks ( for a chance to win a a family fun kit. See their facebook page for details:

3. Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Festival
The Newfoundland & Labrador Folk Arts Society presents the 43rd Annual Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Festival “celebrating Newfoundland & Labrador’s unique culture with great traditional music, interactive workshops, local art work and craft and plenty to eat, drink, see and do”.

The festival is held August 9th-11th, at Bannerman Park

4. What’s happening on the lawn at Government House
During July, August, and September, Government House will host activities from 12:15 until 1:00 on the lawn:

9. Ordinary Spokes: bike repair for all. (151 Empire Ave, at the Tool Library)
The Tool Library and Ordinary Spokes have teamed up! During the Tool Library’s open hours on Thursdays (5:30-8:30pm) you can tune up your bike, meet other cyclists, or purchase an affordable refurbished bike.

10. Eating in Georgestown
a. The Georgestown Café and Bookshelf, 73 Hayward Ave, 579-7134. Open 8:00am until 5:00pm from Monday to Saturday, and from 10:00am until 5:00pm on Sunday.
Note that they have opened an additional location on Long’s Hill.
b. The Georgestown Bakery, 60 Hayward Ave, 753-8099. Open from Tuesday until Friday, from 7:00 until 5:30pm, and on Saturday from 7:00 until 3:00. Bagels, baguettes, breads of many varieties as well as sweets!
c. The Hungry Heart Café, 142 Military Rd, 738-6164. Open Tuesday to Saturday, from 8:00am until 3:00pm. Brunch is served on Saturday.
d. The Rooms Café, 9 Bonaventure Ave. Open Monday 10 am – 5 pm; Tuesday 10am – 5pm; Wednesday 10am – 9 pm; Thursday 10am – 5pm; Friday 10am – 10pm (Archives close at 5); Saturday 10am – 5pm; and Sunday Noon – 5pm (Archives closed).

11. Raised Garden Boxes
Stella’s Circle is making gardening a breeze! Once again this year we are selling 3’ x 6’ vegetable and herb gardens, custom-made and installed by participants of Stella’s Circle. Working together with the Conservation Corps NL, Stella’s Circle participants will build, assemble and install Raised Garden Boxes to make your gardening easy. For more information:

12. Roadwork in Georgestown
The streets in Georgestown that are scheduled for work under the 2019 Streets Rehabilitation Contract 1 include the following:
* Hayward Ave: From Maxse St to Catherine St
* The Dardenelles
* Bonaventure Ave: From Merrymeeting Rd to Howley Ave

This tender was awarded to Pyramid Construction Ltd. Construction will take place over the summer and fall, and early winter (until January).

13. Automated Garbage Pick-Up
The second phase of automated garbage should be completed and households issued garbage receptacles for automated pick-up should have received these. If you have any questions, you can visit or call 311 to request a change.

Please also be aware that if you are physically unable to manage the new receptacles, you should also call 311 or complete the exemption form:

14. Private resource teacher in Georgestown
