1. Marshmallow meetup at Bannerman Park
On Tuesday, January 14th, 9:45-11:00am, Cloudberry Forest School will be at Bannerman Park. This will be a part of its satellite program, running January-April, meeting in local neighbourhood parks, playgrounds and school yards. The meet-up will be supplied with a variety of play experiences that adults can do at home to inspire getting out whatever the weather. (Suggested donation of 5$). For more information, visit:

2. Eat your Veggies Pop-Up at the Hungry Heart Cafe
Is eating more vegetables one of your New Year’s Resolutions? On Thursday, January 16th, 5:30-8:30pm, The Hungry Heart is hosting their first special event of the year, with an “Eat Your Veggies” Pop-Up.

3. Book Launch at the Lantern–The Yoga of Pain: A Love Story by Andrew Marc Rowe
On Friday, January 17th, you can join Andrew Marc Rowe at the Lantern for the launch of the next novel in his Yoga trilogy. There will be book signing from 6:00-7:30pm, followed by kirtan, a form of Bhakti (devotional) yoga 7:30-8:30pm. For more information, visit:

4. Chili Supper
On Sunday, January 19th, 4:00-7:00pm, L’Arche Avalon is hosting their annual Chili Supper at the Lantern. They provide the chili (meat and veggie) and request you bring a dessert to share. For more information, visit:

5. Self-Acceptance, Self-Care and Self-Compassion (Stella’s Circle)
A continuation of Stella’s Circle Women’s Mental Wellness Speaker Series, this session explores the post-holiday anxiety that is often experienced on the heels of Christmas, reflecting on what the New Year means and discussing societal pressures surrounding New Year’s expectations. Tools will be identified to make the most of daily routines while focusing on channelling energy into self-acceptance, self-care and self-compassion. Monday, January 20th, 7:00-9:00pm.

6. Chinese New Year at the Hungry Heart Cafe
Join the HHC for this multicourse, family-style, Chinese feast featuring symbolic foods served during traditional New Year celebrations. Dumplings, noodles & spring rolls are some of their favourites, and will accompany fish, pork & chicken on the menu. Friday & Saturday, January 24th & 25th at 7:30pm.

7. Sewing Machine Tune-Up Workshop (St. John’s Tool Library)
Do you know what lurks under your presser foot? Are your feed-dogs eating fabric? What is that growling noise just before the needle snaps? Be fearless. Join Debbie and Renee (ThreadbareNL) to learn to strip your sewing machine down for cleaning and oiling so you can do regular service before you break something. Saturday, January 25th, 1:00–3:00pm. b. Ordinary Spokes: bike repair for all. You can tune up your bike, meet other cyclists, or purchase an affordable refurbished bike.

c. St. John’s Baby Clothes Library. A new library is set to open in St. John’s later this fall for sharing baby clothes, from size preemie to 2T. Clothes will be able to be picked up and dropped off at the St. John’s Tool Library during its hours of operation.

a. The Georgestown Café and Bookshelf, 73 Hayward Ave, 579-7134. Open 8:00am until 5:00pm from Monday to Saturday, and from 10:00am until 5:00pm on Sunday.
b. The Georgestown Bakery, 60 Hayward Ave, 753-8099. Open from Tuesday until Friday, from 7:00 until 5:30pm, and on Saturday from 7:00 until 3:00. Bagels, baguettes, breads of many varieties as well as sweets!
c. The Hungry Heart Café, 142 Military Rd, 738-6164. Open Tuesday to Saturday, from 8:00am until 3:00pm. Brunch is served on Saturday.
