It is spring, and once again people are not picking up after their dogs, even though it is the law that they must. Please pick up after your dog, and maybe dog owners who are extra nice could pick up “mistakes” when they encounter them.
Have a look at our website to discover a new “Georgestown Folklore” section. The folklore graduate students presented a walking tour of their research last October and a talking tour of the same this February. If you missed these events, you can now read all their reports online on our website at

1. Tea and Scrabble for a Good Cause. Saturday, April 13th, form 2:00 until 4:30 p.m. Presented by the Terra Nova Grandmothers and Grandothers. Admission $15. Come as a team or find a partner there.
Bring a board and a 4th edition dictionary (A few will be available.) The Stephen Lewis Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign helps grandmothers in Africa raise their grandchildren orphaned by AIDs
*Overflow parking is available at the Basilica then go to the right side of church, take the lane to the right in front of the mother house and go through to the Lantern.

2. Scanning/Mapping Event. Watch out for details soon about this event your neighbourhood association is organizing in collaboration with Heritage NL in May. You can bring old photos of the neighourhood, and we will scan them to save for the future. We will also be asking residents and former residents for the location of the businesses that once dotted the streets of Georgestown so that we can put their location on maps. It will be a fun evening of sharing with the usual treats and refreshments!

7. Ordinary Spokes: bike repair for all. 151 Empire Avenue. (at the Tool Library). Thursday from 5:30 until 8:30 p.m.

Spring is here, and Ordinary Spokes has bikes for sale. This DIY bike repair co-op shares the space with the Tool Library and repairs bikes which they sell for reasonable prices to help fund their operation. Stop by to have a look.

8. Eating in Georgestown.
a. The Georgestown Café and Bookshelf are open 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. from Monday to Saturday, and from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. 73 Hayward Avenue, 709-579-7134.

b. The Georgestown Bakery, 60 Hayward Avenue, is open from Tuesday until Friday, from 7:00 until 5:30 p.m., and on Saturday from 7:00 until 3:00. Bagels, baguettes, breads of many varieties as well as sweets! 753-8099.

c. The Hungry Heart Café,142 Military Road, 738-6164. Open Tuesday to Saturday, from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Brunch is served on Saturday; closed on Sunday.
